“Sekil” is a beautiful jewel used by the “mapuche” woman worn on the chest. Sterling silver for the “mapuche” people represents transparency and wisdom, the purest element from the earth, converted into a jewel, and apart from decorating their bodies, they believe it protects them, imparts knowledge and natural beauty.

In our “Ethnic Jewellery” collection we have mixed sterling silver and ceramics.

The goddess of ceramics is identified with the mud vessel and it has a mistic nature as the result of the union of the four elements, that for our ancestors were the “universe”: mud, water, air and fire.

Biography

Adda Miranda

Living overseas and experiencing a different culture, the search for my “identity” flourished from within me, and also the desire to reclaim my roots as nostalgia for my homeland grew over the years. I longed to see the Andes once again, to eat a warm “marraqueta”, (chilean bread) to have a glass of chilean red wine on my dinner table and of course a typical pottery pig bowl full of “pebre”.

One day I took a piece of mud and ended up with the figure of an indian woman in my hands. Since then I feel an enormous respect for our native people and the legacy they left us.

My experience as a ceramist and silversmith have guided me to produce my collection of Ethnic Jewels, inspired by precolumbian pottery designs and the iconography from our indigenous people from different cultures. Applying ceramic gres techniques and the craftsmanship in sterling silver I have given each piece their own unique identity.
